Meet Ashish, a 9-year-old boy, who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 6. Ashish’s journey to the playground was fraught with challenges, not only for him but also for his mother, Guddi. Unaware of autism, Guddi sought help for her son’s delayed speech, only to face taunts, ridicule, and blame. Despite receiving limited support from her family, Guddi remained determined to find therapy and success for Ashish.
Her search led her to Umoya Sports’ Sportability program, designed for children like Ashish, where sports served as a catalyst for development and growth. Enrolling Ashish in the program, Guddi hoped for a brighter future for her son.
From the moment Ashish set foot on the field, his boundless energy and ADHD posed challenges in team games. Yet, with Guddi as his companion, they engaged in one-on-one play. As Ashish’s journey unfolded, a transformation began. His enthusiasm for sports soared, buoyed by the support of his coaches and peers. Ashish not only honed his athletic skills but also developed confidence, teamwork, patience, and perseverance.
Despite societal stigma, Ashish’s family remained resilient. For Guddi, her dreams for Ashish evolved from mere day-to-day routines to envisioning a future filled with possibilities. Ashish’s story serves as a testament to the power of sports in breaking down barriers and fostering inclusivity. His journey, marked by determination and support, inspires hope for children with disabilities worldwide. For Guddi, her dreams for Ashish are now imbued with the belief that sports can transcend societal boundaries, paving the way for a brighter future not only for her son but also for countless others like him.
